York Conferences has received a gold Green Impact award for its environmental efforts. The Green Impact award is an environmental accreditation scheme for student unions, organisations and universities, run by the National Union of Students (NUS). York Conferences has been awarded the highest Green Impact accolade – a gold award – recognising the incredible work of our employees as they’ve strived to shrink our environmental footprint.
Green Impact aims to reward green workplaces for their environmental work. York Conferences became involved in the scheme as part of the University of York’s wider Carbon Management Plan and sustainability efforts.

Environmental Hero Award’. Green Impact said Katy “
was an enthusiastic leader of her team at York Conferences, Commercial Services. Leading by example and full of innovative ideas, Katy was an excellent project leader, which led to her securing the Environmental Hero award 2014. Congratulations!”
The ‘green impact’ of participating organisations is measured using a series of criteria, covering many different categories of sustainability – from recycling and water conservation to biodiversity and travel. When criteria are achieved, they are entered into an online logbook. Green Impact auditors then visit the university to verify that the criteria have been achieved.
Over 50 universities are taking part in Green Impact, with 1,700 teams carrying out 25,000 greening actions, together exerting a significant impact on the environmental footprints of higher education centres across the UK. With the scheme expanding with every academic year and the bar raised periodically, Green Impact is only set to grow in stature and significance over time. York Conferences are excited and honoured to have been awarded gold, and will continue to make every effort to operate sustainably.
