Edinburgh gains two more hotels in the build-up to the Scotland’s year of sport whilst China gets its second Waldorf Astoria and COMO arrives in the US with Metropolitan Miami Beach.

DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre & ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge

The scottish capital gained two new hotels this month courtesy of economy hotel group ibis and Doubletree by Hilton. The 138-room Doubletree by Hilton is located in the city’s old town and offers conference facilities for up to 120 delegates. There’s three meeting rooms and a penthouse suite with outdoor decking, which transforms into a Skybar on the first Thursday of each month.

It’s the brand’s first hotel in the Scottish capital and the result of a £4.2 million renovation of the former Point Hotel.

"The opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre joins a Scottish portfolio of 14, which, during a year that will see the country play host to world-class events including The Ryder Cup and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is immensely exciting,” said Simon Vincent, president, EMEA, Hilton Worldwide.

The newly-built ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge boasts 259 rooms with free wifi and the brand’s virtual concierge service allowing guests to discover information about the local area.

Thomas Dubaere, Chief Operating Officer for Accor UK and Ireland, said: “Edinburgh is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting visitors from across the globe and this is the first of three hotels which we will open in the city this year.”

Waldorf Astoria Beijing

The Waldorf Astoria Beijing has opened its doors becoming only the second Waldorf Astoria hotel in China.

The 176-room property features 796sqm of meeting space, a spa and fitness centre with heated indoor swimming pool and three restaurants, including Peacock Alley, Brasserie 1893 and Zijin Mansion,.

Guest rooms include 38 suites in the main hotel tower and the Waldorf Hutong Villa, three Hutong studios and a room housed in two villas with private entrances located in a garden courtyard.

Waldorf Astoria Beijing is comprised of two buildings with varying styles. The main tower is an elegant bronze building which will transform its colour as it ages. The surrounding Hutong Villas bear the elements of ancient Imperial China.

Waldorf Astoria Beijing is located in the heart of the city on the former site of Xianliang Temple, which was the permanent residence of Li Hongzhang, the first Chinese guest to stay at the iconic Waldorf Astoria New York. Li’s visit held great political, economic, and cultural significance within China.
