Marriott International opens Residence Inn, Hyatt eradicates single-use plastic straws, Dukes London refurbishes female-friendly rooms, and DoubleTree by Hilton Hull holds official opening event.
Residence Inn opens near to Olympia
Marriott International has opened Residence Inn by Marriott London Kensington, which includes an eighth floor terrace, available to hire as an events space.
In a prime position on Warwick Road in Earls Court, the hotel features 319 suites, of which several boast private terraces with impressive views across the capital.
The property’s spacious one- and two-bedroom suites include separate living, working and sleeping areas, designed for those taking longer stays.
The Olympia London conference centre is just a ten-minute walk away, while other key event venues such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum, Royal Albert Hall, and the Natural History museum are less than one mile away.
Hyatt joins single-use plastics campaign
Hyatt hotels around the world plan to eliminate single-use plastic straws and drink picks.
After September, straws and picks will be available on request only, and eco-friendly alternatives will be provided where available.
This move away from single-use plastics builds on its 2020 Environmental Sustainability Vision, which was introduced in 2014 across Hyatt’s global portfolio to minimise and divert food waste, source responsibly, reduce water and energy consumption, and engage suppliers around sustainable practices.
Additionally, 2018 marks ten years of Hyatt’s collaboration with Clean the World, a non-profit that collects used soap and shampoo products from hotels, recycles them, and then donates them to communities in need.
Over the past nine years, Hyatt hotels have donated 475,000 pounds of bar soaps and toiletries.
Dukes London refurbishes female-friendly Duchess rooms
Dukes London, Mayfair’s quintessentially British five-star hotel, has refurbished its Duchess rooms as part of a larger renovation of the 90-room property.
The rooms, which are aimed at solo female travellers, have been decorated in fresh greys and whites, with the bedspreads and cushions providing a pop of colour to the interiors.
The Duchess Rooms offer a female room attendant to handle all room service and housekeeping requirements, dressing tables with make-up mirrors and extra styling accessories, female amenities in each bathroom, glossy women’s magazines and fresh flowers.
In addition to the refurbishment, a Fresh Pantry in-room dining option has also been introduced.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hull holds official opening event
Over 500 local dignitaries, event organisers and representatives from local businesses attended a gala dinner last month to celebrate the official grand opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hull, the largest conference venue in Hull and East Yorkshire.
The event was hosted by television presenter Gethin Jones, and guests included the Deputy Lord Mayor of Hull and his consort, the Deputy Chief Executive of Hull Council, and the Head of Visitor Destinations for Hull. Also in attendance were event organisers from Siemens and BP and representatives from the Meetings and Events Team, CHS Group and Good Travel Management.
The 165-room DoubleTree by Hilton Hull has 900sqm of ground floor, pillar free, flexible event space that can hold up to 1000 delegates theatre style.
The £25million venue, which opened its doors in November, is already getting industry recognition and recently won ‘Best Large Conference and Exhibition Space’ at this year’s CHS Awards.
