Historic Royal Palaces unveils new Kensington Palace Pavilion

Published: 18 Dec 2017

Independent charity Historic Royal Palaces has announced that a brand new events venue is to be installed in the beautiful gardens of Kensington Palace in 2018. The Kensington Palace Pavilion, a glass fronted building overlooking the palace’s famous Sunken Garden, will replace the Orangery at Kensington Palace for three years. Flooded with light and situated in the heart of the palace grounds, it will be available for hire from March 2018.

The Kensington Palace Pavilion temporarily replaces the Orangery at Kensington Palace, which will close in January 2018 for a major conservation and building project. The new venue is a purpose-built, one of a kind building, offering a flexible space for a range of events, with a unique terrace overlooking the stunning gardens and East façade of the historic Georgian royal home.

The Pavilion will feature two main event spaces, with capacity for an impressive 800 guests for a standing reception across both rooms, and 300 for a seated dinner with the option of a separate drinks reception area. The venue will also benefit from a covered terrace area, making it ideal for receptions in all seasons and a first for Kensington Palace. The area around the Sunken Garden can also be utilised alongside the terrace for larger events.

Building work will begin in February 2018 and the Pavilion will be available to host an exclusive number of events per year from March 2018.

Alex Donnelly-Palmer, Events and Operations Manager at Kensington Palace, says: “We are thrilled to announce a new addition to the Historic Royal Palaces portfolio - the exclusive Kensington Palace Pavilion, which will provide organisers with a brand new space for their events from March 2018. With The Orangery closing imminently for planned conservation work it was important for us to provide an exciting alternative option for the many clients who choose Kensington Palace for their events. Whether an extravagant gala dinner, an evening reception, or a bespoke event, the Pavilion will provide a truly exclusive and memorable event experience.

“Additionally, clients booking events in the Kensington Palace Pavilion will contribute to Historic Royal Palaces’ charitable cause, as income raised from all commercial activities is reinvested in conservation, public access and educational activities to ensure the palace continues to well-maintained and open for all to enjoy.”
