Reykjavík is the capital of Iceland and is in a central position between Europe and North America. The city, "Bay of Smokes," is named after the rising steam from nearby hot springs. This port city supports Iceland's thriving fishing industry, and has a high tech business district. There are a range of business-class hotels and a good selection of venues for meetings. Reykjavík´s new East Harbor Project is a downtown development of concert hall, conference centre and hotel is scheduled to open in December 2009. Virtually everything in Reykjavik is situated within a ten-minute radius of the major hotels. It is also possible to reach Iceland´s famous countryside with its mountains, geysers and waterfalls less than an hour drive from the city centre. Keflavik International Airport is 30 miles from Reykjavik and only operates international flights.
