Mike Fletcher selects a handful of UK hotel openings to get excited about for the new year.
Hotly anticipated UK hotel openings for 2020 include almost 8,000 new bedrooms in London across 65 new properties, a 195-room Aloft in Birmingham attached to a newly built conference and meetings venue, two Hyatt Hotels in Manchester, plus a third UK luxury Fairmont property in a distinctly royal location.
New additions to the UK capital’s hotel scene will include the Londoner, part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection, plus a Radisson Red on the Greenwich Peninsula, adjacent to the O2.
Located in Leicester Square and extending six levels below ground, the Londoner (pictured below) will offer 350 bedrooms and 35 suites when it opens in the Spring.
It will also include a rooftop bar and expansive meetings and events space, featuring a state-of-the-art 6,092sqft pillar-free ballroom, which will accommodate up to 864 guests and can be divided into two sections.
The Radisson Red London Greenwich will offer 70 uniquely designed bedrooms and forms part of the £8bn project to redevelop the area around the O2 entertainment complex.
A new 195-room Aloft Hotel in Birmingham’s Eastside district will provide onsite accommodation for the eastside rooms, a purpose-built conference and events venue, due to open in Summer 2020.
The Affinity Suite is the main space withinthe eastside rooms, and will be Birmingham’s largest pillar-free banqueting room, able to seat up to 1,200 delegates. The Affinity Suite is surrounded by over 800sqm of plenary, breakout, meetings, and events space on floors one and two of the venue, including the Belmont Suite, which can host 400 delegates.
In Manchester, a 212-room Hyatt Regency hotel and a 116-room Hyatt House hotel will both be located in a new building, the Lume, on Oxford Road and are expected to open late 2020.
Hyatt Regency Manchester Oxford Road will feature a 120-seat restaurant, bar, club lounge, and a fully equipped 24-hour fitness centre. Hyatt House Manchester/Oxford Road will provide apartment-style living for business travellers.
Meanwhile, Accor and Arora Group have teamed up to open a luxury property in the Royal Borough of Windsor in Berkshire. Fairmont Windsor Park is currently undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment and is set to open in the second half of 2020.
Windsor Park (pictured above) will be the third Fairmont property in the UK joining The Savoy in London, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, and Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland.
In one wing, the hotel will offer 16 elegantly designed meeting rooms including an 800sqm pillar-free ballroom with a capacity for 700 guests, plus two further event spaces with natural daylight, access to private terraces, as well as bespoke landscaped gardens for outdoor functions.
Fairmont Windsor Park will also boast a 2,500sqm spa and wellness area, featuring both an indoor lap pool and outdoor vitality pool, treatment rooms, salt room, plus Hammam and Japanese foot spa with views over a courtyard.
