venue description
The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn
The historic buildings of Lincoln's Inn are set in spacious, beautifully maintained private gardens in the heart of Central London. The venues available to hire provide an outstanding and unique backdrop for any event and special occasion.
The Old Hall is the finest building in the Inn and, indeed, is one of the finest buildings in London. A tablet outside records that the Hall was built "in the fifth year of King Henry VII". Henry VII came to the throne in 1485, and so the Hall is a building erected before Christopher Columbus set sail for the New World. Available for weekday daytime and evening bookings, and all day weekend bookings.
The Crypt beneath the Old Hall was for centuries used for storing fuel, food and wine. From the 1960s it was used as a Students' Common Room, Games Room and Bar, and now is a fine Reception Room. Hired in conjunction with Old Hall.
The Great Hall (or New Hall) is one of the most distinguished buildings designed by the eminent nineteenth century architect Philip Hardwick, who produced a building of great originality, strength and refinement. The Great Hall was considered by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner to be the best surviving example of its kind in London.
Available for weekday evenings and all day weekend bookings.
The Old Court Room, built in 1845, was an extension to the Library of Lincoln's Inn. The Library became the largest law library in the English-speaking world. The Old Court Room was originally constructed as a lecture room but, from 1877 to 1883, the constant search for additional accommodation led to its use for Court Sittings, hence its name.
33 Chancery Lane comprises a suite of six meeting rooms finished to a high modern standard and offering a variety of options including screen and audio-visual facilities and internet access. The flexible arrangements allow independent use of each room, or the combining of two to create a larger space.
Lincoln's Inn is closed annually during August.
