venue description
The City of London Club was founded in 1832 by a group of prominent bankers, merchants and ship owners who formed a committee on the 29th February that year under the chairmanship of Mr John Masterman, then Member of Parliament for the City.
The building of the Clubhouse commenced in January 1833 and was finished early in 1834, and the original cost of the building, fixtures and furniture was £21,700.
The Club is located in the heart of the City, just 5 minutes walk from Bank or Liverpool Street tube stations, and is also within easy reach of all London Airports and main line rail terminals.
The Club has five rooms available for hire on the second floor, and can accommodate a myriad of events from breakfast meetings and seminars, to presentations, lunches, dinners or even BBQ's on its Garden Roof Terrace.
The Club holds a licence for Civil wedding ceremonies, and can also be hired in its entirety at weekends.
When the Club closes to Members in the afternoons some of the larger, grander and more "Clubby " rooms are available for hire and these rooms will accommodate dinners for up to 120 or Cocktail parties for up to 300 in the Main Dining Room or the Drawing Room, whilst smaller more intimate dinners for 30 or 40 can be accommodated in the Salisbury Room.
Each floor has its own kitchen and everything is prepared and served by the Club's own staff who know and understand the demands that City clients have for prompt and unobtrusive service. This allows the venue to offer not just the usual three course set menus, fork buffets, canapés and breakfasts but more out of the ordinary options such as Roast Suckling Pig.
The Club also has an extensive wine cellar offering a selection of fine wines from all of the worlds major wine producing regions.
The Club has a friendly and experienced events team on hand to offer advice and to take the strain out of organising your event, so whatever kind of event or occasion you are planning, you won't find a more perfect venue than the City Club.
