The Czech Republic lies at the heart of Central Europe and at its centre is the historic city of Prague. With a population of some 1.3 million residents, the city lies on either side of the Vltava River in the middle of Bohemia that is one of the three historic Czech territories; the others being Moravia and Silesia. The city has seven "Chapter Divisions" or districts. The historic city of Prague is home to Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square and the river Vltava. It has a rich artistic and cultural heritage which is reflected in its splendid art nouveau architecture. Prague's Old Town is cantered around Old Town Square, the Jan Hus Monument and the Old Town Clock Tower featuring its astronomical clock dating back to the 15th century. Prague International Airport is located to the northwest of the city about 20-30 minutes to the city centre. It has daily connections to and from most major European cities – to and from other destinations you will have to transfer in Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam or Paris. Since The Velvet Revolution of 1989 Prague has boomed with huge growth in top-quality accommodation. Many of the international 5-star chains are present in Prague, while it also boasts many historic residences and castles. The growing number of visitors to Prague and the widespread availability of accommodation since 1989 have led to an increase in the number of restaurants and the cuisine has become much more cosmopolitan.
