Value for Money:   The cost of living in New York is high compared with other American cities and it is estimated that prices are around 10% higher than the rest of the country. However, the city believes that it has the best of everything (art, food, and entertainment) and there is a premium to pay for access to it.
New York is a leading US city and centre for global commerce, finance, media, culture, art, fashion, research, education, and entertainment.  As host of the United Nations Headquarters, it is also an important centre for international affairs.  It is located on the Atlantic coast of the North-eastern United States and is made up of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. In 2008 the population was estimated at 8.3 million.  Many landmarks in New York are familiar worldwide, such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square, the Broadway theatre district, Wall Street which is home to the New York Stock Exchange and Central Park.  The city is also home to some major cultural institutions, such as Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and the Guggenheim.
