Venue Focus: The Mermaid

Published: 19 Oct 2016

This month, London’s first theatre to have opened outside of the west end in 1959 goes into partnership with KUDOS.

Why’s The Mermaid making headlines?

Blackfriars-based conference and events venue, The Mermaid, has awarded a seven-year catering contract to hospitality company, KUDOS, to become the venue’s sole caterer.

What can organisers expect from the new catering options?

Based widely on traditional British cuisine with a modern twist, the talented chefs at KUDOS have created an exciting range of innovative food concepts curated with a love for fresh ingredients.

Each ingredient is expertly sourced by the experienced in-house chefs keeping food provenance in mind to deliver bold, seasonal flavours in a variety of beautifully presented dishes. The Mermaid believes that every event is unique and its menu should be too.

Alicia Duncan, General Manager of The Mermaid says: “We are elated to be working in partnership with KUDOS to offer our clients a brand new catering experience. The KUDOS team are extremely talented and their menus are both inspired and creative – something we pride ourselves on as a venue. Vowing to do things differently in 2016, we felt that it was time for a change and KUDOS is a perfect match for us. ”

What indoor events space does The Mermaid offer?

The Mermaid can cater for events of all shapes and sizes. Whether it be a conference for 600 in the Auditorium, a seated dinner for 200 with panoramic views of London’s skyline in the Upper River Room or a meeting for 50 in the Newgate Suite, The Mermaid offers flexible event spaces that can be tailored to any brand and style.

The Mermaid is also home to the only tiered 600 seater auditorium in Central London.

With unrivalled sight lines to the stage, this space sits at the heart of the venue and offers great acoustics, a Bose sound system and audio visual equipment, 346sqm of performance space and pre-positioned rigs. The Auditorium also has road-level access and space to drive a car directly onto the stage.

Overlooking the Thames, the River Rooms benefit from panoramic views of London, an open-plan layout and plenty of natural light. This blank canvas venue is the ideal space to create a corporate or consumer event with a difference.

Tell us something we may not know about The Mermaid?

Once a fully operating theatre, each brick in The Mermaid’s Auditorium was purchased for half a crown (12.5p) by the people of London when it opened in 1959 as the first theatre outside of the famous west end.
