The Middle: Tom Ellis at
the Wallace Collection
15 September – 27 November
2016
This September the
Wallace Collection presents
a new, contemporary exhibition of the work of
Tom Ellis. Through a specially
commissioned series of paintings and self-made furniture,
Tom Ellis: The Middle will
redefine the notion of public and private space and examine how the status of
the space impacts the objects displayed within it.
Echoing the
Wallace Collection’s domestic
curation,
The
Middle will be on display in three different spaces within the
Museum, displaying enigmatic figurative paintings alongside furniture. By
presenting these artworks in the surrounds of
Hertford House, The Middle offers
a rare opportunity to view contemporary works in direct dialogue with historic
fine and decorative art.
Ellis is a British artist, living and working
in London and his work has been widely exhibited in the UK and abroad.
The Middle sees
Ellis’
work being displayed against the opulent backdrop of
Hertford House,
juxtaposing painting and furniture, the contemporary and the historic,
addressing whether these juxtapositions of objects affects their status as art.
From
Thursday 15th September, private views of
Tom Ellis: The Middle will
be available to enhance evening events at the
Wallace Collection.
