Early in November the top names in the UK museums’ sector arrived in the West Midlands and Birmingham Museums prepared their very own welcome, taking the opportunity to show case the city’s world class collection and their fantastic buildings.

Museum conference delegates arrived in Birmingham for the Museums Association annual conference and were treated to a series of breakout events and evening receptions for delegates to showcase how innovative practice and wide-ranging engagement projects have helped drive visitors and engagement across its sites across the city.

At the heart of the programme were two exclusive evening events at Thinktank and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The event at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery featured music from Wassifa Sound System, a delicious array of canapes, a photo booth and showcases from partner organisations. All set in the elegant surroundings of the newly refurbished Edwardian Tea Rooms and the stunning Industrial Gallery.

Over at Thinktank delegates were treated to a series of shows in the 70 seater digital planetarium, the chance to make a whole host of weird and wonderful crafts and the opportunity to network under the wings of a Spitfire and in the presence of a talking robot!

The conference itself at the Birmingham International Conference Centre was also a huge success and delegates from around the country enjoyed exploring the city and debating the future of the sector.
