Manchester Central further establishes its sustainable standing

Published: 18 May 2015

The north of England’s leading conference and events venue has succeeded in its aim to achieve the international standard for environmental management, ISO 14001.

Manchester Central’s latest accreditation was awarded alongside its second re accreditation of ISO 20121, the international standard for sustainable events management, which Manchester Central was one of the first major UK venues to achieve in 2012.

Initiatives contributing to the recent success include; installing 160 state-of-the-art smart meters that precisely measure energy use in real-time, implementing a dedicated procurement team to ensure services are sourced sustainably and taking responsibility for managing waste by opening an onsite recycling centre.

The achievement comes after Manchester Central intensely focused on reducing the negative and boosting the positive environmental, social and economic impact of its business operations.

Russ Forshaw, Director of Facilities Management at Manchester Central, said: “Being truly sustainable in our operations is embedded at the very core of our business and we’re really proud of how we have transformed what was once a Victorian train station into a state-of-the-art conference and exhibition venue.

“We’re already reaping the rewards of operating sustainably and we look forward to working with even more sustainability-focused businesses, sharing best practice along the way.”
